Breathing and relaxation :

Sophy has taught breathing and relaxation to musicians at Morley College, as part of pre performance techniques, she also co- ran a series of progressive classes at the North London Buddhist Centre with Margot Messenger (one of the only Jin Shin do practionioners in the country)

It is also an integral part of the Pilates breaks whether a day or a weekend.

More about breathing and relaxation, why bother ?

In its most simple form, paying attention to our breath can ease away the tensions of the day and allow us to relax. But on a more fundamental level it is the essence of life, and how much attention do we give it ?

If we explore and experience and begin to understand our own individual breathing patterns we can start to undo and let go of the restrictive patterns we have developed and allow our natural energy to return.

Breathing affects our respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, muscular and psychic systems, it affects our sleep, memory, energy levels and concentration.

Sophy is interested in the versatility of the breath, and the diaphram like any other muscle in the body needs to be versatile not fixed.

Through the exploration of various breathing techniques, we will discover the breathing patterns we have and find ways of letting go of those that are no longer useful

These classes are an exploration, not a “how to do”, as each of us has a different experience, a different journey.
